Information: Lipids are important because they can be a source of energy storge. They can also help insulate and protect our organs. In food, lipids are formed by a bond called a triacylglycerols or triacylglycerides. They make up 99% of animal and plant origins. Lipids we eat can be oils (liquid) and fats (solid).
An example of a food with saturated fat is chicken. This will give me lots of energy protein for my body. The saturated bonds in this chicken are single. They have the maximum amount of hydrogen as possible
A benefit to eating food that contain unsaturated fat include its lowers cholesterol levels, its reduces inflammation, and it builds stronger cell membranes in the body.
An example of food with unsaturated fats is salad. This will not give me any protein or energy because it is more digestible. In this chain, unsaturated fats share a double bond (with carbon). The chain has less than the maximum amount of hydrogen in its bonds.
Pasta is an excellent source of complex carbohydrates. It provides a slow release of energy so it remains sustained.
