When he was enrolled into this school he had a mentor named Jean Massuie. At the time the director of the school named Abbe Sicard was to be put in jail and death. Jean massuei along with students including Clerc petitioned the court for his release. Because of this action Sicard was released.

Laruent Clerc went to Washington D.c to gain support from congress in 1818. In 1819-1820 with the help Mr. clay the congress of Connecticet granted the school with 23,000 acres of government land. The land was sold for around $300,000.
