- The Baudelaire children were at the beach."Then their was a mysterious figure emerging from the fog."Then the mysterious figure was Mr. Poe a friend of theirs delivered some terrible news that their parents perished in a fire.
- The Baudelaire children went inside Count Olaf's house.The house is ugly, it was dark and old.They saw a lot of eyes on the walls watching them.

- The result of the Baudelaire children's parents dying they are now orphans.They now have to live with a relative they have never met.They have arrived at a creepy mansion with their Uncle Count Olaf.
- They found out Count Olaf is a madman.He left a note for the children to do.Klaus is chopping wood and Violet is washing dishes
