one of the many domestic problems was working conditions. especially unsafe working conditions and child labor. everyone was affected one way or another. some families didn't care for their kids and kicked them out to work,. Others had to do it to survive, to pay rent. this affected people in the 1900-1917. many people had to go to cities to work because there was not much work to do in the country side.
Working conditions were frequently unsafe and led to deadly accidents. Tasks tended to be divided for efficiency's sake which led to repetitive and monotonous work for employees. As factories were being built, businesses were in need of workers. With a long line of people willing to work. The reason why this was an issue was because not only are adults working, so are the children. The children shouldn't have been able to work, they should have been in school.
Because there was children under 10 working for other people. The reason why the parents didn't care was because they didn't care for their children. They didnt care what happened to them. So most of the children were homeless and need to work in order to survive. Some of the jobs that the children got were made in mines, glass factories, the textile industry, agriculture, canneries, and as newsboys, messengers, shoe shiners, and peddlers. many poor families had no choice but to send their children to work in order to help the family survive.
The people who were trying to fix the problem are: henry ford, lWW (industrial workers of the world), and florence kelley. Henry fixed the problem by paying auto workers a remarkable $5 a day. Doubling the average wage helped ensure a stable workforce and likely boosted sales, IWW made it so unskilled workers could work like women, african americans, and immigrants. Florence helped create 10-hour workdays and some state minimum wage laws. She agreed to serve as secretary of the NCL and transformed that organization into the nation's leading exponent of protective labor legislation for women and children.
Through settlement houses and other urban social work, reformers aided workers and their families and entreated employers to eliminate dangerous working conditions and other abuses. Muckraking and others gave nation‑wide publicity to accidents and unsafe conditions.
We would be working for 12+ hours every day including children. We would live close to where we work And getting not enough pay in order to pay our rent. Many of us would die from exhaustion and some of us would die by accidents in the workplace. We would be getting replaced by other people if the work was not done correctly.
