When we can't find my sister, we knowshe is under the kitchen table, a book in her handa glass of milk and a small bowl of peanuts beside herWe know we can call Odella's name out loud, slap the table hard with our hands, dance around it singingShe'll Be Coming 'Round the Mountainso many times the song makes us sickand the circling makes us dizzyand stillmy sister will do nothing morethan slowly turn the page.

ODELLA GET OUT!!!!
She'll be coming 'round the mountain
SummaryI chose this poem from the book because I thought it was significant to one of the characters, traits. This poem taught me a lot about Odella's attitude and this poem, later on, relates to a few character differences. Odella is an intelligent girl who loves to read. This poem really shows that when it says the children yell her name and she doesn't even lift the book to talk to them. Later in the book, Jacqueline compares herself to Odella and she doesn't think highly of herself because she thinks Odella is way better than her. I think one of the main reasons Odella is so smart is that she applies herself and even in her free time she works on her academics. This poem is significant because it shows Odella's true character, and part of me doesn't understand somebody who is so into their studies they don't participate in weekend activities but instead, they read and grow in their academics. Which is the opposite of almost everybody these days. I chose this poem because I thought Odella was interesting and different from most.
