Charlemagne's army is fighting the Muslims in Spain. The last city standing is Saragossa, held by the Muslim king Marsilla.
Marsilla got scared of Charlemagne's army, so he sent out messengers to Charlemagne. Marsilla promises that he will convert to Christianity if Franks return to France. Charlemagne decided to accept the piece offer. They need to select a messenger to go to Marsilla's court. The bold warrior Roland nominates his stepfather Ganelon to be the messenger. Ganelon went enraged, fearing that he would die at the hands of Pagans.
Ganelon hated and envied Roland.Ganelon had found an opportunity to revenge. Ganelon told the Saracens to ambush the rear guard of Charlemagne's army at Roncesvals, and it was led by Roland.
Roland volunteered to lead the rear guard. Oliver Roland's friend joins him and Turpin the fierce archbishop. Later on, Pagans ambushes them at the Roncesvals. Roland and his men are outnumbered. Oliver told Roland to blow the Oliphant, but Roland proudly refuses.
The fight turned against the Franks. Almost all of Roland's men are dead. He blows his oliphant even though he knows that it was too late to save him and his men, but Roland wants the emperor to see what happened and avenge them. Roland blows the oliphant so hard until his temples burst and dies a glorious martyr's death, and saints took his soul straight to Paradise.
When Charlemagne and his men arrived at the battlefield, they only found dead bodies.Charlemagne took revenge for Roland and his men by killing Baligant. Later on, they found out about Ganelon's betrayal, Charlemagne was sentenced to have the most painful death. Galenon is torn limb from limb by galloping horses and his thirty relatives are hung for good measure.
