Text z Príbehu

  • On the tenth of February, 1675, a great number of Indians came upon the city of Lancaster. They left many people dead, wounded, or captured after they attacked the city. Unfortunately, one of the people captured and wounded was Mary Rowlandson. Her son was also captured and badly injured after the attack by the Wampanoag Indians.
  • They Wampanoag Indians then led Mary and her son up on a hill where the city of Lancaster was still visible. Mary and her son were treated horribly as they continued on through their journey. As they stopped to settle for the night, Mary and her son did not receive much sleep because the Indians were shouting, dancing, yelling, and singing.
  • Mary and her son kept on walking with the Indians as they continued on with their journey. Mary's son was very ill and soon they were not able to walk anymore so the Indians decided to place them upon one of the horses. Unfortunately, the horse had no saddle which caused Mary and her son fall head first off the horse as she had no more strength to stay up anymore.
  • After nine days of being captured by the Indians, Mary's son passes away after living for 6 years and 5 months. As she cries over the lifeless body of her son, the Indians instruct that they must continue on and so the child is buried.
  • As they continued on with the journey, Mary felt hopeless as most of her family members were wounded, captured, or dead. Once the Indians started to continue on to reach their next destination, they began to treat Mary way better than they had before. The Indians started to feed Mary more and took care of all of her needs.
  • After eleven dreadful weeks of Mary being captured, she was finally released by the Indians. Mary was free to go and went on to live her life talking about her encounter and journey with the Wampanoag Indians.
