Text z Príbehu

  • Denial
  • I'm fine! I don't want to go home.
  • You look really sick, you should go home so that you can get better.
  • Sublimation
  • I'm so upset about my math test!
  • Channel that frustration into the game!
  • Displacement
  • Your essay is absolutely horrible
  • Get out of my room!
  • Hey! Can I borrow your blue skirt?
  • The girl is in denial about how sick she is because she doesn't want to miss school. My friends and I often experience this because it is very stressful to miss school and have so much work to make up. However, not going home to properly recuperate just makes everything worse.
  • Compensation (1)
  • You got an F on this test Jack.
  • The girl on the left is frustrated that she didn't do well on her math test. Whether she is mad at herself, mad at her teacher, or anything else, channeling that energy into playing soccer is a constructive outlet for those emotions. I also play soccer, and when I am feeling mad or upset it often helps me to focus my energy on doing well at practice or in a game. When I do this, I am using the defense mechanism of sublimation.
  • Compensation (2)
  • You won your race Jack! Great job!
  • The girl in the red shirt is demonstrating displacement because she is directing the anger she feels towards her teacher towards her sister instead. She is not truly mad at her sister, but because she was unable to yell at her teacher she is instead yelling at her sister. When I have a bad day at school, I often unfairly direct my frustration towards my family or friends, even though they did nothing wrong.
  • Rationalization
  • I'm sorry you didn't get into Stanford
  • Jack performed poorly on his test, so he compensates by performing really well in his race later that day.
  • Some of my friends have a harder time in school, and so they compensate by performing really well in athletics.
  • The girl in this scenario is rationalizing her Stanford rejection by explaining that she didn't want to go to college so far away, anyway. Although I am not yet going through the college application process, I do know people who have been rejected from schools and rationalized by saying they wanted a different environment.
  • It's okay, I want to go somewhere closer to home anyway.
