Text z Príbehu

  • In Australia, some groups are more likely to be in poverty than others.
  • In January 2016 the UN came together to create a Sustainable Development goal
  • UN Sustainable Development Goals for 2030
  • By 2030 we will have No Poverty
  • The Target: 1.4 By 2030, ensure that all men and women, in particular the poor and the vulnerable, have equal rights to economic resources, as well as access to basic services, ownership and control over land and other forms of property, inheritance, natural resources, appropriate new technology and financial services, including microfinance.
  • This includes, women...
  • As a woman, inequality is my everyday. I have less opportunity for well paying jobs than my male counterparts and I am faced to choose between a career or a family.
  • I'm a pensioner, did you know almost 1/3 of pensioners in Australia are in Poverty?
  • There are still 3,000,000 Australians living under the poverty line.
  • Those whose main source of income is government payments...
  • By 2021 it became apparent that these goals may not be reached.
  • Children from a single parent family...
  • And those with a disability.
  • With only my income and small help from the government it's difficult to give my children every opportunity.
  • Disabilities can prevent people from getting certain jobs, whether physically or mentally unable. This doesn't mean we should be in poverty though - there needs to be adequate government funding.
  • I am 5 times more likely to experience poverty as an adult
  • Those not in the Labour Force...
  • Fortunately, there are ways to fix this!1. We need to Learn the facts
  • Unemployment is the leading cause of Poverty.
  • I want to see an improvement of the collection, analysis and publication of statistical data on poverty in Australia and worldwide.
  • I recently left my job to care for my mum and now I cannot get back into the workforce.
  • Those who come from a Non-English speaking country...
  • 2. Develop Stategies
  • I have a PhD in my country but the qualifications are not recognised here. With no "proper" education and poor English I cannot get secure - income jobs.
  • Many non-English speakers are also heavily descriminated against.
  • 50.8% of those in poverty rely on government payments as their main source of income!
  • 3. Spread the word!
  • If Australia can implement a strategy that ends, or even dramatically reduces, poverty the rest of the world should be made aware!
  • These statistics do not even consider the additonal costs of having a diability!!!!
  • To do this, we require Indicators.
  • What exactly are indicators?
  • Indicators monitor and manage strategies to reduce Poverty by collecting data that is analysed and statistically compared.
  • 1. An increase in full-time employment. 2. An increase in Education funding. 3. An increase in the infrastructure budget 4. An increase in the agricultural investment 5. An increase in charity funding.
  • In the next 10 years we hope to have a 10% growth in all of these areas.
  • In Asia, biotechnology has been implemented to produce Golden Rice.
  • For this, we aim to see an increase in searches by 20% over 3 months.
  • We hope to track the spread of awareness...
  • We need to monitor information campaigns for discrimination, misconceptions, inequality & disability.
  • Golden Rice reduces vitamin A deficiencies in children with three new provitamin A producing genes.
  • The Indicators that we have chosen to implement as a realistic aproach are...
  • And of course, like everything, it all comes back to SCIENCE!
  • In countries of
  • The key to tackling Poverty may be Biotechnology.
  • Although Australia is a more developed country than those in which biotechnology has been applied in Asia, there is still great food insecurity.
  • Agricultural Biotechnology fundamentally aims at restructuring the genes of crops to either include more nutrients or be resistant to pesticides.
  • The reasons vary but all stem from insufficient money.
  • This can be extended to a world wide application and the No Poverty goal can be achieved.
  • Highly nutritious food and a greater yield means greater food security and overall nutrition!
  • 1.4 By 2030, ensure that all men and women, in particular the poor and the vulnerable, have equal rights to economic resources, as well as access to basic services, ownership and control over land and other forms of property, inheritance, natural resources, appropriate new technology and financial services, including microfinance.
  • With these strategies, and the use of Agricultural Biotechnology, we hope to tackle poverty both in Australia and World Wide.
  • So, could this achieve our Target? Lets see...
