Text z Príbehu

  • During WWII 1939-1946 U-boats were sinking ship after ship and spreading fear in the Atlantic#160;Britain needed help, after Operation Dynamo, (Evacuation of Dunkirk May 26 - June 4 1940.) They were the only European power against Germany and are on a island. Canada Immediately Got there navy to escort freighters. But loses of cargo ships was big.
  • Canada yet again got into action with a design where welding would be used as a faster method to build the cargo ships at a cheaper price. Shipyards in British Columbia, Nova Scotia and Ontario got to work moving and using materials to build the new cargo ships in huge quantity in a small amount of time.Ships started coming out of shipyards in July 1943.
  • With the new and large amounts of ships Canada loaded them up with food supplies and weapons. The ships Canada made were also faster and more manoeuvrable#160;to there american counterparts “The Liberty Freighter.” Near to the end of the war some ships were modified mid building to be troop transports and auxiliary Cruisers.
  • there is however one last question what did the Victory and fort ships do to impact Canada other then allow new jobs in ship building or opening new way for the future construction. Canada became a bigger navel power but not in military power but in merchant power. Even thou Canada is known for fighting in the war the also help supple weapons, materials and food, And not just making the supplies but transporting them
  • Even after the war the ships where still useful most of them were sold or put up for scrap to provide post war jobs to make money and to help rebuild or provide to refugees. The scrapping was like when Britain decided to scrap there battleships because they almost went bankrupt. Now only three remain as museum ships, and to show that there is more then one way of fighting a war for the better good.
  • Canada's identity grew with the building of the Victory and Fort ships. It wasn't just the identity but Canada's infrastructure also changed to help and the improvement of towns and cites to build such cites along with advancements afterwards to help with incidents with all the new amount of use this infrastructure that was made in the process.
