- Nitrate and Phosphate. The new dictators of their sea realm. Today, we have a special interview with our new royalty - which will answer some of your most inquired questions.
- So, what exactly are you guys? And where do you come from?
- We are bothnon-persistent pollutants ; meaning we can be decomposed by nature without much difficulty. Both of us originate from fertilizer which is a non-point source of pollution.
- How did your enemy of the sea first find out you were infiltrating its waters at the beginning of the war?
- The demographic changes of those biological indicators helped the enemy realize of our interference. Those snitches!
- When we first started to subtly call in our soldiers for the conquest, we got rid of the stonefly and mayfly nymphs first, then some of the crayfish.
- Were there any other obstacles while you were fighting for this water?
- Well, there was one that affected the sea's population. It still is a challenge, for we cant rule the sea if there's no population!
- Hmm... What would that be?
- When it entered an organisms body, it would stay for a long time. Once multiple of those organisms got eaten by another species, the concentration of DDT kept increasing as it went higher up the food chain. This process is called biomagnification.
- The problem of DDT. This pesticide (substance used to control pests) was a persistent pollutant that stayed in the environment for a long time. It came from the point source of the manufacturing plant located in the city.
