  • The Stamp Act1765 - 1766
  • King George III: Darn...that Seven Year War with France left us all bankrupt. Hmm...well...we did help the colonies with our riches. I think it is indeed time for them to repay us. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
  • Hey, let's tax the colonies to make more moola!
  • ?
  •
  •
  • The Townshend Acts1767 - 1768
  • King George III: That tax imposition was an immense success! However, the colonists are getting a bit hostile about it...I shall consult the Parliament! Hopefully, they could come up with a proposal.
  •
  • We shall impose more taxes to gain riches and exert our authority to those lowly colonists!
  • The Boston Tea PartyDecember 16, 1773
  • NO TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION!
  •
  • No taxation without representation!
  • After the Seven Years' War with France, Britain's finances were severely depleted. To help replenish their finances, the British Parliament passed the Stamp Act. The Stamp Act imposed direct taxes on the British colonies. SPICE Element: Economics
  •
  • Absolutely terrible! The British are taxing two shillings for each paper document.
  • From 1767 to 1768, the British Parliament passed four new acts to tax the colonies to, not only gain more money but to assert their dominance. This would later be known as the Townshend Act, named after Charles Townshend. Due to the hostile backlash from the colonists, Townshend believed that the indirect taxes on imported goods would be accepted instead.
  •
  • SPICE Element: Political
  • NO TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION!
  • The Boston Tea Party was an act of protest from the American colonists. Essentially, sixty colonists rioted against the taxes imposed in the Townshend Acts and threw three hundred and forty-two chests of tea into the Boston Harbor.
  •
  • SPICE Element: Interaction with the Environment
  • The water is brown...
  • The colonists had to pay taxes, represented by a stamp, on numerous papers, documents, and even playing cards. This taxation act greatly displeased the colonists, as they did not have any consent to this.
  • I HATE TAXES!!!
  •
  • No taxation without representation!
  • We all are going to go into bankruptcy at this rate...
  • However, the succession of the four acts only angered the colonists further; it fueled their hatred for the injustice of taxation without representation. Eventually, the colonists protested these acts by not importing any British goods until these acts were repealed and boycotting any goods that violated their importation agreement.
  • They are constantly imposing all of these ridiculous taxes on us!
  •
  • How am I supposed to afford the paint to create artworks? That is my only source of income!
  • The colonists were frustrated and angry at the British Parliament for imposing such ludicrous taxes on them. The Boston Tea Party sent the message that the colonists did not want anything to do with the British any longer. From the riot, numerous crates of tea were thrown into the harbor that the water had essentially turned brown from the tea leaves.
  •
  • We were successful! This will show those Brits that we should not be messed with!
