Ohio River Valley, beyond the Appalachian Mountains, was rich in resources and had very fertile soil. It was occupied by the French and the Indians until the British defeated them.

Both the French and the British needed Native American allies. The French traded with the Native Americans so they already had allies, but the Iriqouis refused an alliance with the British. They stayed neutral, though.

The French captured several British forts in the beginning, until William Pitt became prime minister. William Pitt was a great military planner, and sent more British troops to fight in North America.

British Scouts spotted a poorly guarded path in Quebec, capital of New France. The British Troops defeated the French Army, and marked the defeat of France in North America.
The treaty of Paris forced France to give Canada and most of its land to Great Britain. After, North America was in the hands of Great Britain and Spain.
King George declared that colonists could not settle west of the Appalachian mountains. He brought 10,000 troops in America to enforce this rule. He didn't want the colonists and Native Americans to fight, because they didn't want to pay anymore money.
