Jude is excited to talk to Stella because of how consistently she has been on her mind. However, Stella does not feel the same; as Brit Bennett states,¨She was partly smiling but she held the cigarette away from her body, warning Jude not to come closer. She was angry—Jude hadn´t expected that¨(Bennett 278). Jude brings up Stella's past, which she has been trying to continue to hide, so Jude is an annoyance. An obstacle that Stella needs to get past because Jude being around makes things worse for Stella.
Once Jude saw Stella at her job, she soon started thinking about her so much that she became paranoid. Brit Bennett states, ¨When Jude stepped outside, she imagined bumping into her. Stella pausing on the sidewalk, admiring a purse through a shop window. Stella on the bus, hanging on to the vinyl strap—no, Stella in a smooth black limousine, hiding behind the tinted glass. Stella everywhere, always, and nowhere at the same time (Bennett 237). I think Jude is having trouble moving on with her life because she cannot focus on anything else besides Stella. Which led Jude to pursue Stella.
