My name is Richard Trevithick, and I am the first man on building the world's first railway locomotive
My locomotive managed to pull ten tons of iron and 70 passengers for 14.5km in Merthyr, South Wales
What's your name, and what are you best known for?
And how did you managed to build the Blücher, and why?
I took my chance of making money too, so I decided I was going to build my first locomotive and I named it the Blücher.
It pulls coal very slowly at the local mine
I first intended to use horses to pull carts full of coal along the track, but Stephenson persuaded me to use his steam locomotives instead
And this was the first public transport system, thanks to him.
It pulls 12 wagons full of coal, a coach and 21 passenger cars
What was your first idea for building this?
Why did you build the locomotive?
There was a race between three other steam locomotives, the Sans Pareil, the Novelty and the Perseverance, ours was the Rocket I build it with my son Robert.
The purpose of the race was to see if any engineer could design a safe and reliable engine to use on the railway, and we managed to win.
THIS WASN'T SUPPOSED TO BE LIKE THAT!!!
NO THIS WASN'T SUPPOSED.
I Duke of Wellington was just a guest of honour
The worst is that William Huskisson died because he was run over by the locomotive, and after that the locomotive didn't want to work anymore.
By December, dozens of trains were carrying passengers, coal, timber, cattle, cheep and pigs between two cities.
