- After leaving the Valley of Ashes, Myrtle, Tom, and Nick go to Tom's apartment in New York. Myrtle began to invite many people over. (page 28-29)

- Her laughter, her gestures, her assertions [have become] more violently affected moment by moment
- A little bit after the phone calls, the guests arrive to the apartment and Myrtle began to change her character as the people arrive. (page 30-31)

- After a little while into their get together, Catherine, Myrtle's sister, is talking to Nick about how Tom and Myrtle feel in their current relationships and why they are yet married. (page 33-34)
