But what would be the causative organism for that and what impact does it have on my body, and most important how can it be diagnosed?
Influenza is being caused by an infection in the respiratory with the influenza virus or the Myxovirus influenza. Influenza can have a lot of impacts on your body, of course all the symptoms you have right now is an impact on the body. But some complications can lead to pneumonia which is an infection in both lungs, an ear or sinus infection, dehydration and also worsening of chronic medical conditions, for example congestive heart failure, asthma or diabetes. The most common and used method is the "Rapid influenza diagnostic test(RIDTs). They work by detecting the parts of the virus, which are the antigens, which then simulate an immune response. These tests can provide an test result within 10-15min but they may not be as accurate as other influenza tests
I can show to you on the board
There are 3 good and important ways to prevent influenza. Wearing masks, getting vaccinated and social distancing. I will go more in depth about these strategys later. Now that you have the flu, I will tell you some ways to treat it. So as you probably already know, you should get a lot of sleep and a lot of rest, as effort for the body is very disadvantageous. Of course you should always keep warm. To lower your temperature and aches and pains, you can take ibuprofen or paracetamol. As influenza can lead to dehydration you should definitely drink a lot of water. Most important be patience.
That was a lot of information. But I have another question! What are methods to prevent and treat influenza.
Here Ben, I will show you
The first method I am going to present to you is the face mask strategy. With the face mask strategy, you want to reduce the spread amongst a community. How would this work? So the influenza virus travels through the air in droplets when a person sneezes, coughs or even talks. It is possible that you can inhale these droplets directly, but you can also just pick up the germs from an object, for example a computer, a phone/Ipad or a keyboard. These germ or droplets will then transfer to your eyes, mouth or nose. If this happens the virus passed the first line of defence. For health care workers or people that are in contact with the infected person, surgical masks could help block respiratory droplets that are carrying influenza germs and it can also prevent the germs spreading from the hand to the mouth.
And what are these 3 strategys you wanted to tell me about?
Yes, so I will explain you the first method now
