Let us breach here on the island with Cyclops so we can explore.
Odysseus and his men landed on a land inhabited by Cyclops. They decided to explore the island and the caves. He also brought liquor and his reason, ...I knew some towering brute would be upon us soon knowing none but savage ways a brute so huge, (20).
When they get to Polyphemus (Cyclops) cave, they find tons of food and supplies to build a fire. Instead of just stealing it all and leaving before Polyphemus came back, they decided to stay and wait for Polyphemus because Odysseus wanted to see him.
We should take it all and go!
No! I wish to see see this cave man even if it means some of you die.
The next morning, the men all hid themselves underneath the sheep. When the sheep went outside for the day, Polyphemus held his hand over the sheep to try to make sure the men didn't escape. The narrative states, ...but my men riding on the pectoral fleece the giant's blind hands blundering never found, (Homer 394-395).
My head aches so greatly, but I must make sure not to let the men out of the cave.
Odysseus offered Polyphemus the liquor that he brought with him in hopes he would drink it and fall asleep before they were all eaten. Odysseus says, 'Cyclops, try some wine. Here's some liquor to wash down your scraps of men,' (120). When Polyphemus fell asleep the men used the spear they made to stab him in the eye and blind him.
Do we all know the plan? Is everyone ready?
The men managed to sneak away without Polyphemus catching them. They made it back to their ship and sailed away never to return again.
No! They have escaped!
When Polyphemus returned to the cave, he was furious to find people. He used a bolder to block the exit and started torturing and eating some of the men. The narrator says, ...Cyclops went on filling up his belly with manflesh and great gulps of blood (95). Odysseus thought off killing him, but knew that they would still be trapped in the cave to die.
*Crying* No! Zeus help us!
