- Climax: Montresor chains Fortunato up in the recess. While this is happening, Fortunato is still intoxicated and has no idea what's going on.
- Falling Action:Throughout the falling action, Montresor proceeds to build the brick wall to permanently entrap Fortunato. Fortunato gains his sobriety and realizes Montresor is not playing.
- Resolution:After completely building the wall, Montresor calls out Fortunato's name one last time. After he hears no response, he comes to the conclusion that Fortunato's dead. Fortunato stayed there for half a century.
