- You stupid Polyphemus, my name is Odysseus ,son of Laertes.
- Father ,Odysseus son of Laertes, has blinded me, make it so that he may never return to his homeland in Ithaca.
- Odysseus and his crew members have trapped in Polyphemus the one-eyed cyclops' cave, Polyphemus has been eating the crew members, one after another. One day Polyphemus was out tending to sheep and Odysseus and his remaining crew members made a plan, they would grab a large wooden stick big enough to strike Polyphemus, however, they couldn't just layout they covered it until it was no longer visible when Polyphemus returned Odysseus went out to talk to Polyphemus, when out there he hands Polyphemus wine, he repeatedly passes the Cyclops more and more. When the cyclops was drunk and passed out the ship members went out and struck the cyclops in the eye. And they ran out of the cave.
- After the men had escaped Odysseus created a plan for their escape to the ship and off of the island. His plan was for the men to each get one of Polyphemus's sheep and get on the underside of the animal, this was because Polyphemus wouldn't be able to see the sheep because he was blinded by the wooden stick. When the time finally arrived they all jumped on the sheep however Odysseus leaves on a Ram. When Polyphemus starts to feel the sheep he notices nothing irregular, however, he does call out that the Ram was slower than usual, but he lets it pass. After they are all through they run off to the ship.
- When they are running to the sheep Odysseus screams out his name and his father's name, when he did this Polyphemus calls out to his father Poseidon and cursed Odysseus so that he may never make it to his home in Ithica.
