In Northern Ontario, the federal government created labour camps for unmarried, unemployed, and homeless Canadian men in 1933.
Adam
we are setting up labour camps in Northern Ontario for single, unemployed, homeless Canadian males. The camps were also known as unemployment relief camps
In the camps we were housed, fed, clothed, got basic health care and were paid 20 cent per day .It was dreams come true but in return we had to work so we were clearing and building roads, planting trees, defence buildings and airfields. but after a few year the daily stipend rised to fifty cents per day.
Adam
but However, as jobs became available, the camps phased down.
