- Man Vs Man
- "I no longer felt anything except the lashes of the whip" (Wiesel 57).
- Man Vs God
- "...I fully believed that the salvation of the world depended on every one of my deeds...But now, I no longer pleaded for anything" (Wiesel 68).
- Man Vs Self
- "My head was spinning: you are too skinny...you are too weak...you are too skinny, you are good for the ovens..." (Wiesel 72).
- Elie is about to be beaten by the Kapo. He walked in on the Kapo and a girl and laughed. The Kapo is now punishing him.
- Man vs Nature
- "'Don't let yourself be overcome by sleep, Eliezer. It's dangerous to fall asleep in snow. One falls asleep forever'" (Wiesel 88).
- "But people not only refused to believe his tales, they refused to listen. some even insinuated that he only wanted their pity, that he was imagining things. Others flatly said that he had gone mad" (Wiesel 7).
- Elie no longer believes in God. He used to believe that his prayers and actions affected the world and his outcome but now he thinks that all was a lie. He doesn't pray anymore and doesn't believe God is above man.
- Man vs Society
- When Elie is having to run naked for selection he had a lot of self-doubt. He was telling himself that he was going to get picked to go into the fire because he was too skinny and slow.
- Elie's dad is telling him that he can't fall asleep This is an example of Man vs Nature because if Elie falls asleep in the snow he won't wake up.
- Everyone in town doesn't believe Moishe. They thought that he wanted pity and money. He was only trying to tell them what was going to happen to them next.
