  • Hi! My name is Lochlan, and today I am going to be teaching you a little bit about depression

  • First off, what is depression?

  • Depression as you probably know is feeling sad. But depression is a bit different from being sad, its a deeper sadness.

  • Depression has multiple traits. First is loss of interest, you begin not enjoying the things you used to.

  • Decision making, making daily decisions more difficult. Even deciding where to eat may becomes difficult.

  • Isolation, people start isolating themselves from family and friends. This causes their other symptom's to get worse.

  • Loss of appetite. Majority of people lose their appetite, but some people eat more to help them cope with depression.

  • Low energy, depression also lowers your energy and motivation, making it harder to get out of bed or do anything.
  • Guilt and self criticism, you feel guilty and disappointed in yourself. Often blaming themselves, and easily convincing yourself its your fault.

  • Lastly and the most severe are thoughts of death and suicide. People end up having so much self hatred, and feel so worthless they believe life isn't worth living.

  • Now that we know the symptoms of depression, how do we diagnose it?

  • ONLY a trained professional can diagnose depression reliably

  • Now we know the symptoms, and how to get diagnosed, but how do we recover?

  • Second would be changing your mindset. Shifting the way you think in your day to day life to become less stressful and more positive.

  • Something that helped me a lot is accepting the situation your in and focusing on what you can control. This reduces the stressors in your life allowing you to focus on the positive.

  • First speak to a trained professional like a therapist. This is because everyone's road to recovery is different, and a therapist can help you construct your road to recovery.
