President James Polk uses the skirmishes as an opprotunity to declare war on Mexcio and acqure more land in the west
In September 1847, General Zachary Taylor ended the fighting by leading a campaign and capturing Mexico City
In return for $15 million dollars, the terms included the Mexican cession of the California and New Mexico territories, as well as all of Texas including the disputed land on the border.
In 1848, the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo was signed, finalizing the American victory
