- Burr became a lawyer in 1782 and practiced in New York City. Soon he became a top U.S. lawyer, and even served as a New York state legislator and as attorney general in 1789. He was also elected to the U.S. Senate in 1791, defeating Hamilton's very own father-in-law.

- Aaron Burr got into a duel with Alexander Hamilton on July 11, 1804, He ran for the New York governor seat, Hamilton opposed this, and lost. He killed Hamilton with one shot and was tried for murder, but was never arrested and served his full term.

- After his term ended Burr soon was tried for treason. He went throughout the American west recruiting men. General James Wilkinson eventually arrested Burr. Nobody knows if Burr was planning to invade Mexico or if he was planning to detach the southwestern frontier from the rest of America. Later he even went to Europe to attempt to gain support for his odd Mexican scheme.
