- Long ago, there lived the king of Sipylus, loved by his people and also favored by the gods.
- But Tantalus was also a awful person and believed himself to be better than the gods. He didn't believe that the gods were all knowing and devised a plan to test out if they were or not.

- So he killed and diced up his son Pelops into a stew. His plan being that if they were all knowing they would know what Tantalus had done and they would refuse to eat the stew .But if they didn’t he would plan to reveal the secret after they had eaten the stew.
- So he invited all the Olympians over for dinner and brought out the stew.
- The gods however immediately guessed something was awry and were angry. They brought Pelops back then devised a punishment for Tantalus.
- First they cursed his dynasty for centuries to come then they sent Tantalus to be sanctioned in a pool with a fruit tree above. He wasn’t allowed to reach the water because as soon as he reached down the water would pull away and as soon as he reached for the fruit the branches would also move out of reach. He would forever be hungry and thirsty with the tantalizing water and fruit just be barely out his reach.
