Hey Ms. Maglalang! I'm here to speak with you about the new de-streamed Grade 9 Science course.
Hi Mrs. Smith! I have some insight on the front matter of this curriculum. I actually created my own notes using the '6 hats activity' to describe the different aspects.
I focused on the Yellow Hat, which motivates you to pick out some benefits in the document. Here is what I wrote:
-The front matter touches upon STSE (Science, Technology, Society, and Environment) which I like to call citizen science. -There is value in shedding light on societal/environmental issues and motivating our students to be changemakers. -This document also highlights careers and STEM connections (skilled trades) which I think is beneficial for students looking to transform society.
I also looked at the Blue Hat to reflect on the desired outcomes of the front matter. 2 important ones I highlighted are here:
-The desired outcome/purpose is to make science accessible and inclusive.-To forego this, I will be taking on CRRP (culturally responsive relevant pedagogy) by knowing my students deeply (via student profiles). I will generate and deliver content and assessment free of biases. This last part will require continual self reflection every step of the way.
