- Frederick was working so hard in the heat, he got a heatstroke and stumbled to shade. When Mr. Covey saw this, he brutally kicks him and tells him to get up. Douglass tried to get up but falls and gives up, accepting is fate and letting Mr. covey do his worst.
- Rising Action
- HEY! What are you doing stand up right now and get back to work!
- *Kicks him and beats him with hickory stick*
- I just can't get up, I give up.
- ITS SO HOT. I NEED SHADE.
- Mr. Covey brings Douglass into the stables and tries to tie him up but when Frederick realizes this, he springs up and grabs Mr. Covey by the throat. Mr. Covey yells for assistance from Bill but he refuses and the fight between Douglass and Mr. Covey went on for 2 hours before Frederick wins.
- I'm here to work, not assist you whip.

- Frederick Douglass rediscovered his hopes for freedom, boldness, and determination back. Frederick decided that he will never be whipped again by saying that any slave owner who succeeds in whipping him, will also succeed in killing him.
- I can't whip him or else he will fight back at me again
- Resolution
- I will never be whipped again!
