- “But we’d be paid less. Couldn't’ Betsy understand that? If we just work ten hours, we’d be paid much less.” P. 91
- “Time is more precious than money, Lyddie girl. If only I had two more free hours of an evening, what I couldn’t do. P. 91
- This is an example of a Person vs Nature conflict because Lyddie and her family are in danger of the bear attacking them and the bear is destroying all their belongings and eating their food. This is also an external conflict because the conflict is not within her mind.
- This is an example of a Person vs Self conflict because Lyddie can’t decide if she shouldn’t send the letter to Charlie since her spelling and handwriting was poor or to send the letter to Charlie so she doesn't lose touch. This is also an internal conflict because Lyddie is having a conflict with herself not something or someone.
- This is an example of a Person vs Person conflict because in the scene Betsy and Lyddie are arguing. Betsy wants to sign the petition to get less work hours, but Lyddie doesn't want her to because they would be paid less. This is also an external conflict because it is with someone else.
