- Ibn Battuta was a world traveler who traveled throughout the Afro-Eurasian world zone. He was born in Maraca, Africa. He started traveling in 1325 and ended in 1354. [Ages 21-50]

- Ibn Battuta's family members were all scholars and Ibn had a goal to further his education as well. However, there were no places for higher learning in Tangier. So he decided to travel to find education.
- Later Years

- Ibn Battuta rode a donkey out of Tangier to Mecca. From there he left for Baghdad and traveled through Afghanistan to India.

- From India, he traveled to the Maldives then to China. From there he returned to Tangier and later set off for Africa and Spain.

- The sultan of Morocco wanted an account of Ibn’s travels. So, he hired a scholar to work with Ibn to compose a book about his journies. The book was an oral history called A Gift to Those Who Contemplate the Wonders of Cities and the Marvels of Traveling.

- Ibn Battuta's story was unlike some of the other explorers. Instead of talking about what he discovered in the places he had traveled, he had told is life story. Unlike other explorers.
