What is an Antojo?
In order to find guavas, Yolanda made the decision that her Antojo would be to drive north into the countryside and towards the coast. The aunts advised her not to go through with her plan because it was unsafe for a woman to drive an expensive car across the mountains by herself. It was also out of the question for Yolanda to take a bus since she would have to travel with people who were poor.
Yolanda went to a small village and asked where to find fresh guava. An old woman suggested that her grandson take her to a forest where they could pick guava. Yolanda took a group of young boys with her to pick the fruit. However, on their way back, the car's tires started leaking air. Yolanda promised one of the boys a dollar if he went back to a big house nearby to get help. While the boy was gone, two men with sharp tools came up to the car and asked Yolanda if she needed assistance. Yolanda was scared of the men and couldn't move or talk. They asked if she was from America, and she answered in English, trying to explain that her tire was flat. The men changed her tires, and Yolanda gave them money to show her gratitude for their help.

Americana?
Seeking the kid she had sent for assistance, she drove down the road. The youngster was spanked for lying since the security personnel did not think a Dominican woman would walk out after dusk by herself. After giving him his money, she walked away.
