- On a soundless day in the autumn of the year 1839
- And I found myself within view of the melancholy House of Usher
- I had been passing alone on horseback, through wild tract of country.
- Nevertheless, I must enter this mansion to help a friend from my School days, Roderick Usher.
- What was it that so unnerved me in when thinking of the House Of Usher? I sensed dispair.
- I've learned that he has fallen sick, as well as his sister. In my time here I will try to lift his spirits
