King Louis proposed to tax the First and Second Estates
The First Estate
Marie Antoinette
One of the main reasons the French revolution was brought on was because King Louis XVI was trying to solve the country's debt problems so he proposed that he wanted to raise taxes and tax the 1st and 2nd Estates for the first time.
The Third Estate
These are the three estates. The 1st estate considers being Clergy. These types of people were the very higher-ups and they kinda ruled everything and took over. The clergy also had the power to levy a 10% tax known as the tithe.
The Second Estate
Marie Antoinette was another part of the reason the French Revolution became a thing. She helped provoke the popular unrest that led to the French Revolution.
The Absolute Monarchy
The third estate got treated very poorly because they were the lowest class and got looked down upon. They suffered from Famine and they were very poor because no one cared about them.
The second estate consisted of the nobility of France, including members of the royal family, except for the King. Members of the second Estate did not pay any taxes.
The Absolute Monarchy of King Louis XVI was another reason for the French Revolution to come along. His wife Marie Antoinette was also a part of this Revolution. The reasoning behind this is that they were a form of government that involved the society being ruled over by an all-powerful king or queen. That is exactly what King Louis and Marie Antoinette were. The French citizens felt resentment towards the authority of the king. That is another reason the French Revolution started.
