Text z Príbehu

  • Maycomb was dark and a little scary at night. As we walked into, town we saw Atticus sitting outside the county jail. He had his lamp plugged into an extension cord and was sitting in a chair reading. Suddenly, a row of cars came around the bend. A large group of men formed and started talking to Atticus. Atticus looked stern. It looked like something was about to go down, so I ran into the circle. Jem chased after me.
  • Slowly, Atticus's trial began to affect our lives more and more. I did not fully understand what was going on, but I knew it had some importance. So when Atticus left late one night with a lamp and a book after men had come and visited him, Jem, Dill and I snuck out after him.
  • The men all murmured when they saw the three of us. When I reached Atticus, I turned to find myself facing a crowd of strangers. That was when I saw a familiar face. It was Mr. Cunningham! So I started to talk to him. After I told him to say hey to Billy, he smiled and took me by the shoulders and said he will. He waved the crowd away and they all got in their cars and left. Atticus seemed a little surprised. He then said that he was going to bring us home.
  • It was at this moment, that we heard a voice inside the jail say "Are they gone Mr. Finch?" It was Tom! Atticus told him yes, they were gone and he should try to get some rest.
  • It was the day of Atticus's trial and Jem decided he wanted to go. The outside of the courthouse was filled with people. As we tried to get into the courtroom, we ran into the reverend at Cal's church. He told us that we could come sit with him in the upper balconies.
  • When Dill was feeling better we returned to the courtroom. The jury was out deciding on a verdict.
  • As the trial began, Atticus walked out with Tom Robinson. After the sheriff and Mr. Ewell took the stand, so did Mayella. She seemed to be nervous, and she kept changing her story. Once Mayella came down from the stand, Tom took it. After Atticus questioned him, the other lawyer started to as well. He was giving.him a hard time, which ended up upsetting Dill. I had to take him outside to calm down.
  • Dill was hysterical. I tried to calm him down, but it was no use. I then began to get annoyed with him, I wanted to go watch the trial. It was then that out of the bushes came Mr. Raymond. He gave Dill a sip of some coca cola.
  • Dill slowly started to talk about why he was so upset. He thought that he it was not fair. Tom was obviously innocent. Yet he was being treated unfairly. All because of the color of his skin. It was making Dill sick to his stomach.
  • The jury returned with a verdict. They said Tom was guilty. I felt like I was underwater. I felt heavy and I saw Jem begin to tear up. The reverend led us out of the courtroom. We met Atticus out in the courtyard. Jem said it was not fair and Atticus agreed. We all walked home and went to bed.
