- In the beginning of the play Francisco and Bernardo tell Horatio, a friend of Hamlet's, about the ghost the had seen, that resemblance Hamlet's father.

- Fast forward in the play, its shows Gertrude, King hamlet which is dead and prince hamlet at a funeral also including Claudius hamlets uncle.

- Gertrude and Claudius two months after her husbands death gets married.

- In this scene Claudius and Gertrude go to Hamlets chamber to see why is he still mourning after his father and wearing black clothing and Claudius asks hamlet why do the clouds still hang upon him.
- This is when Ophelia and polonius sees Laertes off to France, and Laertes tells Ophelia to beware of hamlets charm and that she should not talk to hime anymore for he doest have good intentions and he is a prince.

- At this point in the scene Laertes has left and polonius is talking to Ophelia about his intentions on her and he says that Hamlet decieved her in swearing his love and that she should not talk to him anymore.
