- It is said that the prince of Norway is building an army to attack the country.
- What is the reason of these war preparations?
- After defeating King Fortinbras in combat, King Hamlet claimed all the land Fortinbras had acquired, as well as his foe's life.
- Negotiations
- Away to Norway you go!
- The Norwegian prince finds his father's dead body and vows to take revenge on the country of Denmark.
- Message recieved
- Marcellus and Barnardo ask Horatio why they are preparing for war. Horatio replies that Fortinbras Jr. is gathering an army of lawless troops to attack Denmark.
- Terms of acceptance
- Claudius plans to send Cornelius and Voltemand to Norway to give a letter to the current King Fortinbras (who is the uncle of the young Fortinbras). In the message, Claudius demands that the he will make his nephew cease the creation of his army.
- Cornelius and Voltemand arrive in Norway to deliver Claudius's message
- When Cornelius and Voltemand return to Denmark, they say that the young Fortinbras accepts their terms. But in return, he wishes for passage through Denmark with his army (not suspicious at all).
- He agrees to your terms, sire.
- His only request is safe passage through the country with his army in return.
