Climax
He was caught in the machinery.
It is a dark and rainy night. Mr. White and Herbert White are playing chess, and Herbert is about to make a winning move. Sergeant-Major Morris walks in to tell the White's about the monkey's paw. Sergeant Morris warns them of the consequences of wishing on the paw, but the White's don't care to pay attention to that.
Falling Action
I wish my son alive again
Sergeant-Major Morris leaves and Herbert is telling Mr. White to use the paw for 200 pounds to pay off the house. Mr. White gives in and makes the wish, but nothing happens. Herbert goes to bed since he has work the next morning.
Resolution
The next morning there is a knock on the White's door. Mr. White learns that his son was caught in the machinery at work, and is offered 200 pounds as compensation for Herbert. Mrs. White is devastated, while Mr. White knows that this was because of his wish.
Mrs. White, in her grief, tells her husband to wish their son back. Mr. White says it won't be what she wants, but she says she won't be afraid of the son she made. Despite Mr. White's fears, he makes a second wish.
Mrs. White rushes down stairs when she hears a bunch of knocks on the door. She is struggling to open the door because of a latch that is stuck. This gives Mr. White just enough time to make his third and final wish. The knocking stops, and the story ends.
