THE OFFERING
I WILL BE TAKING YOUR PLACE IN THIS CHALLENGE, MY KING.
THE CHALLENGE
During a New Year's eve feast at King Arthur's court. A strange figure who introduced himself as the "Green Knight", showed up and challenged them in a game. Due to silence response, the Green Knight mocked the King and so, the King offered himself.
THE CASTLE
THIS GIRDLE WILL SERVE AS YOUR PROTECTOR
But before King Arthur could even take a hold of the axe, Sir Gawain who was his favorite knight stepped up and took King Arthur's place and accepts the challenge himself. He did it so simply because he wishes to spare King Arthur from having to do it himself.
THE GREEN CHAPEL
As Sir Gawain offers to do the challenge, he takes a hold of the axe and in one deadly blow, cut's off the knight's head on the first attempt.
THE END
I AM THE LORD FROM THE CASTLE AND I WAS TESTING YOUR LOYALTY.
A lady who Sir Gawain met while he was on his stay at the castle, offers him a green girdle that the lady claims to be possessed by the magical ability to protect the person who wears it from death.
Sir Gawain sets off and reaches the Green Chapel. He then went on to call out for the Green Knight and greet him. From then on, the fight between the two knights began and resulted to Sir Gawain's lost.
The Green Knight then revealed his name and admitted that he offered the game to test Sir Gawain's loyalty and willingness to protect the King's reputation. As the story's climax the Green Knight leaves Sir Gawain with a scar and the girdle as a reminder of his sin.
