I now pronounce you a knight in the court of Ferdinand and Isabella
Wow, reading these books has really opened my eyes to the goodness of God. I think I will try to be like him.
YAY!
I, Pope Paul III formally give approval for the Society of Jesus.
He became a courtier in 1506, working in the court of Ferdinand and Isabella. Then in 1517, Inigo became a knight, working for one of his relatives, Antonio Manrique de Lara, who was the Duke of Nájera and vice of Navarre, who gave him a job in the army and sent him out on missions, one of which would change his life forever.
While he was recovering from being hit by the cannonball in Pamplona, Ignatius read the only two books there was, The Life of Christ and The lives of the Saints. While he was reading, Ignatius started to reconsider what he wanted to do, switching from wanting to be a knight and a life of vanity, instead deciding to spend his life serving Jesus and helping others.
In 1531. Ignatius and his friends decided to set up an organisation that was dedicated to Christ, but also to helping and serving others, standing with the marginalised and working freely with the Church. They called themselves, the Society of Jesus (SJ) and were formally given approval by Pope Paul III in 1540. They all elected Ignatius to be their leader.
