Richard the Lionheart arrived in Acre in 1191, two years after Guy had first launched the assault in 1189. Conditions were absolutely terrible, and the besieging Crusaders could find no breakthrough. Phillip of France did almost nothing, so it was all up to Richard. In the end, Richard won the battle due to his endless bombardment. The Crusaders received 1500 Frankish people in return as well as True Cross captured at the Battle of Hattin.
After many, many hours of intense fighting between the two sides, Richard won out in an intense battle between him and the Muslim leader, Saladin.
