- Mason and Sarah are brother and sister. They live with their grandmother in Kentucky and her two dogs. Sarah is 13 and Mason is 11. Both are healthy children. Tomorrow is Mason's birthday, he will be 12 and their grandmother has a whole day planned.
- Mason's Birthday started at the local Chuck E Cheese. There he enjoyed pizza games and his birthday cake.
- The afternoon was spent at the local fair. Mason said it was the best birthday ever!! Mason was too busy having fun that he didn't notice the fair worker coughing when he was buckling Masons seatbelt. The workers children were home with chickenpox but since he didn't have a rash he thought it would be ok to go to work.
- Two week after Mason's birthday party he started having a mild fever of 99.8. His grandmother was so worried about him she would slept in the chair in his room.
- The next morning Mason woke up with a rash all over so his body so his grandmother took him to his pediatrician. The pediatrician diagnosed the rash as Chickenpox. He told the grandmother that Mason would be contagious 6 days after the appearance of the rash and needed to stay home from school until the lesions are completely dry. The Pediatrician went on to explain to Mason's grandmother about the Chickenpox vaccine to prevent or the Immune Globulin vaccine that is for children that have been exposed who are immunosuppressed. The grandmother let the pediatrician know that the other child in the home has been vaccinated and so has she.
- Before leaving he Doctors office the nurse also let the grandmother know that she has to call the health department to report the case of chickenpox and that the health department may give her a call to follow-up. After getting home from the doctor's appointment and finding out that chickenpox is Airborne Mason's grandmother moved the old TV in his room since he will be staying in there and gave him calamine lotion to help with the itching. Mason has his own bathroom and will be staying in his room until his is no longer contagious.
