- Hi! My name is Arne Tiselius, I was born August 10, 1902. I graduated at the local "Realgymnasium" in 1921 and currently study chemistry at the University of of Uppsala.
- In 1925, I became a research assistant at The Svedberg's laboratory. 5 years later, I would go on to obtain my doctors degree on the thesis of "The moving-boundary method of studying the electrophoresis of proteins".
- During my visit to the H.S Taylor's laboratory in Princeton , many American biochemists and physical chemists influenced me return to Uppsala and resume my study of proteins, and finding solutions to biochemical problems. My findings led to an improved method of electrophoretic analysis.
- Under my leadership, this institute has contributed to the development and improvement of useful methods in biochemistry such as electrophoresis, chromatography, phase partition, gel filtration, and many others.
- In 1946, biochemistry was established as an independent department was able to obtain a new building, the present Institute of Biochemistry.
- I played a major role in the reorganization of scientific research in Sweden after World War II. From 1946-1950, I was the Chairman of the Swedish Natural Science Research Council and Chairman of the Research Committee of the Swedish Cancer Society from 1951 to 1955.
- Through 1951 to 1955, I was the President of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry. I was also heavily involved with the Nobel Foundation, becoming the Vice President of in 1947 and President in 1960. I also served as member of the Nobel Committee for Chemistry since 1946.
