  • Hi I'm Chris the Chemist, and welcome back to "Science is Super Cool!" I'm here to talk to you about science! Specifcally chemsitry! We're going to talk about ionic radius, atomic raidus, ionization energy, and electronegativity!
  • What is Atomic Radius? Atomic radius is the measurement of the size of a neutral atom. It decreases as you move from left to right on the periodic table, and increase as you go from top to bottom.
  • Ionic Radius is similar to Atomic Radius, excpet that Ionic Radius is the measurement of the size of an ion. Ionic radius acts the same as atomic raidus, so it decreases as you move from left to right on the periodic table, and increase as you go from top to bottom.
  • Ionization energy on the other hand, is the amount of energy it takes to move an electron infinitely far away from the nucleus. As you move from left to right on the periodic table, Ionization Energy increases. And as you go from top to bottom, Ionization Energy decreases.
  • And Electronegativity is the attraction of an atom for a pair of shared electrons it shares with another atom. Electronegativity has a similar trend to Ionization Energy, so As you move from left to right on theaperiodic table, Electronegativity increases. And as you go from top to bottom, Electronegativity decreases.
  • That's all the time we have for today folks! Tune in next time to watch Penny the Physicist explain momentum! Remember, science is super cool, so stay in school!
