- McCartney goes to China but they didn't know what was culturally acceptable in China as they didn't follow all the proper etiquette of their culture. The Emperor was furious that he didn't KowTow and that he brought gifts that represent England. There was also a language barrier so due to all these factors the Emperor didn't accept trade.
- The 2nd Opium war
- A British
- Many things were in demand in China like porcelain or silk but the Chinese emperor didn't need anything from the British. The Chinese merchants and citizens though wanted opium so the British smuggled Opium until the Chinese emperor thought that it was ruining the image of their country and banned it.
- The Handover
- Due to opium being smuggled illegally this led to the first opium war (1839–42) which China lost due to them thinking that the British could only win on water and not land. They had to give some parts of Hong Kong to the British.
- HONG KONG
- The Second Opium War (1856–60) involved Great Britain and France against China. The second war was won by Great Britain and France, resulting in the legalization of the opium trade, more trade ports, and more land was given away to the victors.
- Britain and China signed an agreement on Hong Kong that it would keep its economic system and way of life for 50 years until 1997. In 1997 it was given back to China and the one country two system rule was to be maintained until 2047.
