- When Mibs got on the bus the morning Momma and Rocket left for Salina,  she was faced with a couple of bullies. These bullies, Ashley Bing and Emma Flint, talk about her the whole ride to school, making sure she could hear their hateful comments. "It's Missy-pissy  and her storm cloud," ... "Look, it's the weird kids." ... "That family ought to live in an ark." (Page 14) "What a freak she is," (Page 17)
- When Miss Rosemary brought Will Junior and  Bobbi to the Beaumont's home, Bobbi gets annoyed and tells Will when she thought Mibs wasn't around. However, she was and Mibs told Bobbi that she didn't want her sorries... but Bobbi remained annoyed and bored, keeping the argument alive. "Isn't there anything to do in this house?" she" (Bobbi) "grumped, reclining and closing her eyes, laying one hand across her forehead dramatically." (Page 23)
- A small discussion after returning from the pool at the motel died down and Lill tried to turn the TV on. Everyone immediately shouts at her not to turn it on and she is startled, not sure what they had against the TV. "We all turned to her with a sudden shout of "DON'T!" that nearly made that poor woman sprout wings and fly." (Page 235)
