In the late 19th century and the early 20th century, Russian workers suffered from poor working conditions. They had no say in their whatsoever the Tsar did which was an absolute monarchy. They were overworked and had unsanitary conditions. Unions were banned so there were no worker rights or protection. There was also limited running water in the cities which lead to the sickness and death of many. Farmers had no property over their own land nor any civil rights. Workers were mistreated in the workforce and many were abused.
World War I
In 1905 Tsar Nicholas II implemented reforms such as basic civil rights such as freedom of expression, Universal suffrage, and the creation of an elected legislative assembly- Duma. Although these reforms were implemented, they did not satisfy the citizens in Russia. There were protests and worker strikes which was the start of the Russian revolution.
1917 Revolution
Back to work!
Shortly after Tsar Nicholas II implemented his new reforms workers began to revolt. Workers in cities were striking due to working conditions and wanted change. A petition went around and over 150,000 workers signed a petition and marched down to get Tsar Nicholas II to sign it. However, soldiers assumed it was a threat and 200 people were killed. This was known as bloody sunday. It was the start of the 1905 Russian Revolution.

NO MORE WORK UNTIL MORE RIGHTS!
