- Jing-Mei's mother came from China to to America because back in China there was a war and she lost everything. She cam to America to live a better life and hit the restart button. When Jing-Mei got older her mother wanted her to be a child prodigy and live the American dream.She got magazines to see how Jing-Mei could become famous and popular.
- Climax
- you want me to be something I'm not... I'll never be the kind of daughter you want me to be
- Jing Mei was not happy at all. Her mother made her change her whole self just to be someone she does not want to be. Her mother made her change he style and hair just to look like Shirley tempo which is the child prodigy her mom saw. Her moms goal was for Jing Mei to act and look like Shirley tempo.
- Falling Action
- No this is your piano
- Jing-Mei had been taking piano lessons from their neighbor for a while preparing for her big recital. When the recital day came her family came and when she started to perform her aunt kept saying bad stuff about her. To add on, she messed up during her performance and her family were very disappointed in her.
- Resolution
- When Jing-Mei was done with all this nonsense and got fed up with everything she finally expressed her feelings to her mom about how she felt about the situation. She decided that she didn't want to do what mother wanted her to do and be. The mom was hurt from all the things she was saying. All the mom wanted to do was for Jing-Mei to become successful in life but Jing-Mei wanted her own way to become who she really wanted to be.
- To late to change this
- Jing-Mei goes to college and mother and her don't talk at all. When Jing-Mei comes back from college she says her sorry's because she had been living with regrets after all the things she said to mother that night. For Jing-Meis 30th birthday the mother got her a piano. Have not played the piano since the recital day but she took it as a sign as forgiveness and they both made up.

- A few months later Jing-Meis mom dies. Jing-Mei put all of her mothers belongings in boxes but put the special stuff in bags. To add on, her mothers silk dresses and clothes she got them and took them home with her for herself. When the piano was finally tuned she played the songs she played at the recital. For the first time she played it perfectly. She played the two songs that were played at the piano at the same time but she realized something, she realized that they were two half's of the same song.
