  • Planning and implementing an interdisciplinary lesson was new for me, but also vey exciting. I looked forward to teaching the lessons I had planned, and had fun when I implemented them. I also enjoyed working with the students in my small group and helping them in the areas they struggle in.

  • After some questioning, we found a book based on the student's interests. I'm used to working with lower level students that struggle with reading. Working with an upper elementary student that doesn't like to read was something that came alive for me and was a new experience.
  • I hate reading books. Can we pick something else?
  • I tried to incorporate different types of activities when working with my small group. What worked best for the students was to take them out of the classroom to a quiet place in the hallway.

  • Unfortunately, I was not able to provide more opportunities for students to have discussions about the text. I would have loved to hear more about what they thought of the text.
  • The text that the students were reading was pre-selected by their teacher. The text was a grade level book. While most of the students did well with the text, some did not. Some of these students are struggling readers. Some of them were not interested in the text, and struggles with it for that reason.
