  • Typical and atypical development of children from birth through 5 years old.
  • 2 year oldAtypical development
  • Typical means that the child is displaying accurate skills for their age compared to the same age peers. Atypical means that the child is developing skills at a different or slower rate than that of the same aged peers.

  • Infants learn to suck in order to sooth themselves. They begin to learn to depend on their needs being met in a consistent manner.

  • Begins to include one another in their play, communicates more, enjoys copying others, displays more independence; follows simple directions and can speak in sentences, points to identify pictures or objects and knows the names of familiar people and objects.

  • Limited imaginative play or difficulty engaging in age-appropriate activities. May not use simple words or phrases, may have difficulty walking, running, or climbing; may not show interest in playing with others.
