  • A study by Wesley et al. (2019) sought to learn why PROS are most often met with resistance from the elderly population. Theyfound that this population felt that most PRO applications were complicated and not-user friendly. XYZ Medical Center will implement a new PRO design that will promote PRO adherence in Baby Boomers while focusing on one of the most important usability factors: simplicity (Usability.gov, 2020).
  • The new simple PRO interface will include the following:Consistency: common language and format throughoutBold and colorful textLow complexity: only one question on the touch screen at a timeEase of navigation: the next question prompt automatically upon answering with an available back buttonConvenience: application is available on all smartphone devicesCommunication: application automatically and safely links to MyChart

  • Clinical staff will educate patients on the PRO application during a clinical visit. They will be shown how to download the application and walk-through example questions with a demonstration iPad. The patients will be sent home with patient instructions they can refer to and they will be encouraged to call the clinic if they have any questions. PRO questionnaire compliance within the Baby Boomer population will be analyzed in the near future to see with the expectation that adherence will greatly improve.
